Higher Education

I've come to realize a theme in my life: God has consistently used universities to bless my life and bring me closer to Himself.

In 2002 I was a new Christian when God led me attend Houston Baptist University (HBU) in Houston, Texas. I never, ever had any plans of attending HBU, but somewhat surprisingly (even to myself) I ended up falling in love with HBU. As a baby Christian I was week in my knowledge of and dedication to God's Word. HBU helped me develop a great knowledge of, dedication to, and love for Jesus and the Bible.

In 2006 I was a HBU graduate, but was feeling lost in the world and was not sure what to do next. In a move to buy myself more time I decided to attend graduate school at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, Texas. Although SWBTS was not my favorite place, God used it in great ways to change me as a person and refine the impurities in my heart.

In 2010 I was going through a season of really struggling with my weaknesses and not being the kind of person I knew I was supposed to be when God provided a job for me at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. This was nothing but His grace. Multnomah put me in a secure, loving Christian environment where I was able interact with wonderful people who loved the Lord on a daily basis.

Now, in 2011, God has once again provided for me through a university. Although I loved my job and friends in Portland, I was really starting to want to come home to Houston to be near my family. However, I knew that I couldn't return to Houston unless I had a job lined up. With how difficult it has been to find a job in recent years, I didn't think finding a job in Houston (while I lived in Portland no less) would be easy...or even possible.

Tomorrow I am starting a job at HBU, my alma mater, in my hometown of Houston, Texas, and I am really excited! I am in awe of the way God has woven the theme of universities in my life and how much He has used them to bless me! I sincerely pray that I will be a blessing to the HBU community.
