Hurricane Ike update

My uncle told my parents that their house is fine - no major structural damage or anything. Just a fence down. Of course they won't really know for sure until they see it themselves. My dad's going back today with my brother and the dog. My mom doesn't have to go to work this week, so she is staying up here in Fort Worth with me for a week. That will make it a fun week :)

Saturday night, my parents' car was parked on the street, in front of my house, and it was vandalized in the middle of the night. Two windows were broken out with a baseball bat and the frame of the car was bent in. So, my dad's getting a rent car to take back to Houston and leaving their car here to be repaired. Then he'll come back next weekend to get the car and my mom. Kind of crazy, but they're handling it really well.

My cousin has 4 feet of water in his house, a couple of my aunts & uncles had roof damage & leaks, most of my family doesn't have electricity, and my uncle who lives in Galveston may not get to even see his home for another month. I'm really nervous for my uncle...he loves Galveston so much & he had a really fun beach house.

Overall, I'm glad Houston was not damaged that badly by the hurricane, but I am truly sad about Galveston. I know it can recover, but it makes me sad to see it in the state it's in right now. Lots of people talk about how gross & ugly Galveston is, but I've always loved it. It's the ocean, and it's our ocean, and it's much prettier than having no ocean.

Wow, that stinks! I'm so glad to hear that everyone is ok though.

Sorry to hear about your parent's car and about about your extended family's homes. But I'm glad that none of them were injured.

As bad as it is - it certainly could have been worse had Ike not moved slightly eastward at the last minute.

It may take a while, but I'm certain Galveston and Kemah will rebuild.
