My Creation

This past weekend I decided to make Sticky Buns. I found a recipe in Rachael Ray's magazine that I thought looked so fun. The recipe was one of those where you roll out the dough, put the yummy stuff on the dough, then roll it up like a jelly roll, and finally cut the jelly roll into slices. When you lay the slices on their sides, they look like cinnamon rolls. Easy, right? I've made recipes like this hundreds of times.

Well, this time I apparently did something wrong with the dough. I think I didn't let the butter soften enough. I had the dough all rolled out and the baked apple slices and brown sugar sprinkled on top. I was ready to roll it up, but when I went to do that it wouldn't budge. The dough completely (and I mean completely) stuck to the counter. I realized pretty quickly that the rolling and slicing was not going to happen and my first thought was that I would have to start over. But then I was inspired - I just scraped up all the dough, brown sugar, and apples and put it all in a buttered baking dish. Then I just squished it all down, so that it was covering the pan evenly and baked it for as long as I was going to bake the sticky buns.

I created an APPLE CAKE, and it was delicious! Imagine a really good apple pie, with a butterscotch glaze, but in cake form. It was crazy good and I think it would be a really good dessert at a Thanksgiving or Christmas get together.

I'll probably make it again...if I can just remember how to mess up the dough. :)
